In March 1973, platform shoes were popular, and people were excited about space exploration as the Fleet Science Center opened featuring the world’s first tilted dome OMNIMAX theater and planetarium. For 50 years, the Fleet Science Center has been elevating science and serving our community—and we are throwing a party to celebrate!

The Fleet Science Center’s 50th Anniversary Gala will be Saturday, April 15, and we invite you to join us at the Fleet for a fun evening with a 1973 flair. Bell bottoms are optional for this groovy event, which begins with a reception in the Fleet’s galleries followed by a special program in the Heikoff Giant Dome Theater, a wine-paired dinner, and dancing.

A young Mexican woman with shoulder length brown hair looks proudly at the camera. She is wearing a blue jumpsuit with 'Blue Origin' on the arm and a citizen astronaut patch on her left breast pocket. The background is a vague dark grey photography background.

Our guest of honor is Katya Echazarreta, citizen astronaut and the first Mexican-born woman and the youngest American woman to fly to space.  At the Gala, you can meet Katya and learn about her journey and the impact the Fleet Science Center has had on her life and on the more than 26 million people the Fleet has served in the last 50 years.
